Wolf Night Hold and Win: What the 2000x GRAND Jackpot Actually Requires

Four jackpot tiers, Wild x2 Free Spins, Mystery symbol final reveal. Reviewed after 1,640 demo spins at 1.00 per spin.

Introduction

I'm Mia Stone - Hold and Win specialist and occasional wolf-theme tester when the mechanic is worth the detour. Wolf Night is a 3 Oaks Gaming title from August 2021, and the Hold and Win engine here I know cold. The reel set sits against a dark blue night sky with a forest silhouette at the base and a full moon centered behind the grid - clean production, nothing overdone. Four jackpot tiers run in a horizontal bar directly above the reels: GRAND, MAJOR, MINOR, MINI left to right, every value updating live as the bet selector moves. This is the same Hold and Win engine as Egypt Fire and Golden Teapot with a wolf skin, and if those titles are familiar, Wolf Night will feel immediately so.

Review methodology

1. Game Mechanics and Symbols

5x3, 25 fixed paylines, wins run left to right from reel 1. I checked the full paytable before my session - the Wolf tops it at 12x for five of a kind at bet 1.00, four pays 2.40, three pays 0.80. Only the highest win per payline counts on any given spin.

The Wolf symbol tops the paytable. At a 1.00 bet: five Wolves pay 12.00, four pay 2.40, three pay 0.80. Below it, the Deer pays 10.00 / 2.00 / 0.60 for five, four, and three of a kind. The Ram, Eagle, and Owl complete the premium animal group. Card royals - A, K, Q, J - form the low tier, each paying 2.00 for five, 0.40 for four, and 0.20 for three.

The Wolf also functions as the Wild. It appears on all five reels and substitutes for every symbol except the Moon Scatter and the Bonus symbol. A five-Wild line pays the same as five standard Wolves: 12.00 at bet 1.00.

The Moon Scatter is restricted to reels 2, 3, and 4. I noticed that immediately when checking the rules - a scatter on three reels is harder to hit than one free to land anywhere, and that gap shows up in trigger frequency. Three Scatters pay 1.00 at bet 1.00 independently of any payline result.

RTP bar chart: Wolf Night 95.7% vs industry average 96.0%

The 95.7% RTP is widely reported across SlotJudge, ClashOfSlots, and SlotsMatch. 3 Oaks Gaming does not publish this value on their official game page. The actual RTP is set by each casino operator. Always check the RTP in the casino version you play before placing real bets.

2. Bonus Features

Hold and Win

Six Bonus symbols land on the same spin and the Hold and Win kicks in. Each one already has its cash value printed on the face - 1x to 16x total bet - so I could read the board value before the first respin started. All Bonus symbols lock. Three respins. Each new Bonus symbol that lands resets the counter back to three - I watched it snap back mid-sequence repeatedly, which is the clearest signal the board is still building. The round ends when respins exhaust or all 15 positions on the 5x3 grid fill.

When the round ends, the values of all locked Bonus symbols sum together. That total is the payout.

Jackpot symbols appear randomly during the Hold and Win: MINI (20x total bet), MINOR (50x), MAJOR (150x). These replace individual Bonus value positions on the board. Collect all 15 positions - filling the entire grid - and the GRAND Jackpot pays 2000x total bet.

The Mystery symbol also appears during Hold and Win. It transforms into MINI, MINOR, or MAJOR at the very end of the round, resolved only after respins finish. That adds a second layer of variance within the bonus itself - a board that ends with two or more Mystery symbols will not reveal its full value until the last moment.

A note on the GRAND: filling all 15 positions requires the respins counter to reset repeatedly from an early-game board. It happens. I would not build a session plan around it.

HOLD AND WIN board - triggered at spin 964. Bonus moon coins lock with their cash values printed on each face; shown here with one respin remaining. The round ran 9 respins and resolved to 88.0x total bet - the session's peak win.

Free Spins

Three Moons on reels 2, 3, and 4 start 8 Free Spins. The no-cap retrigger rule is in the in-game rules - and it triggered during my session. Every Wild flips to Wild x2 in the feature: any winning combination that includes one gets its payout doubled. So a five-Wolf line at 12x becomes 24x if a Wild x2 is part of it. Free Spins can also trigger the Hold and Win round, played at the bet that triggered the Free Spins.

Wolf Night Free Spins rules - 3 SCATTER symbols trigger 8 Free Spins, 3 more during the feature add 8 additional, WILD transforms to WILD X2
FREE SPINS - 3 Scatters trigger 8 Free Spins, retrigger adds 8 more; Wilds transform to WILD X2 during the feature (in-game rules, screen 4 of 8)

Session Stats

Observed RTP (total wins / total wagered) = 1,254.60 / 1,640.00 = 76.5%, well below the stated 95.7%. Expected loss over 1,640 spins at 95.7% RTP is roughly 70.00; I was out 385.40. A below-average run at this sample size - variance, not a structural signal.

The base game runs on a sparse nocturnal ambient track - low-end sounds with wolf calls in the mix, sitting well underneath the reel sounds. I kept audio on through the full session without reaching for mute.

Hold and Win activations were spread through the session without obvious clustering. The respins counter reset cleanly each time a new Bonus symbol locked in - watching it snap back to three mid-round is the clearest read that the bonus is still building rather than running out. I tracked multiple rounds where the opening board already had more than six symbols before respins began - those were the rounds worth watching, not the six-symbol minimums.

Session Progression

Test limitations: Single demo session, 1,640 spins at 1.00 per spin, July 2026. 9 Hold and Win rounds and 9 Free Spins rounds confirmed from traffic data. The GRAND Jackpot (2000x) did not land this session. A single session of any size is too small to characterize long-run return rates. Demo credit results do not predict real-money performance.

4. Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Wild x2 in Free Spins doubles every combination containing a Wild. At five-Wolf with one Wild x2 substituting, the payline moves from 12x to 24x at bet 1.00. Confirmed in in-game rules.
  • Four jackpot tiers in Hold and Win mean the feature can pay meaningfully without reaching the GRAND. MAJOR at 150x on its own is a solid outcome from any partial board.
  • GRAND Jackpot (2000x) scales with total bet - not a fixed pool. At 2.00 per spin, the GRAND pays 4,000.00.
  • Retriggerable Free Spins with no stated cap in the rules.
  • Bonus symbols display their cash values during base-game spins - accumulated reading available before the Hold and Win triggers.

Cons

  • Moon Scatter restricted to reels 2, 3, and 4 - a narrower trigger opportunity than games where the scatter can land on all five reels.
  • No Buy Bonus feature. No direct path into Hold and Win for players who prefer feature-buy play.
  • GRAND Jackpot requires filling all 15 board positions - a low-probability outcome even in extended sessions.
  • Volatility not officially disclosed by 3 Oaks Gaming. Medium is the estimate, consistent with SlotCatalog and ClashOfSlots classification. Session variance was contained despite the four-tier jackpot structure; the GRAND ceiling is high but regular outcomes were medium-range.
  • Partial Hold and Win boards with minimum-value symbols can deliver as little as 6x total bet on the minimum trigger - a modest floor for a triggered feature.

5. Wolf Night vs Similar Titles

3 Oaks Hold and Win Family

I've covered Egypt Fire and Lion Gold in this same 3 Oaks Hold and Win animal series - same four jackpot tiers, same respin mechanic, same Mystery symbol behavior. Egypt Fire runs a 40-position jackpot grid versus Wolf Night's 15 - higher ceiling, proportionally harder full-fill requirement. Wolf Night's 15-position GRAND at 2000x is the smaller but more reachable target in this family.

vs Wolf Power (Playson)

Wolf Power from Playson uses the same wolf theme and almost nothing else in common with Wolf Night. No Hold and Win mechanic, no jackpot tiers, no respin structure. Wolf Power is a Buy Bonus title with a different math model and direct feature entry. Wolf Night's bonus structure is more layered, and the base game runs with lower per-spin variance by comparison.

6. FAQ

What is the RTP of Wolf Night?

The RTP is widely reported as 95.7%. Three independent reference sources - SlotJudge, ClashOfSlots, and SlotsMatch - list this figure. 3 Oaks Gaming does not publish it on their official game page, and the in-game rules do not display it either - I checked during the demo session. The actual value is set by the casino operator. Confirm it in the casino's game info before real-money play.

What is the maximum win in Wolf Night?

The maximum win is 2000x total bet. This is the GRAND Jackpot, paid when all 15 positions on the Hold and Win board fill. In-game rules states it explicitly: "GRAND JACKPOT = 2000 X Total Bet." The live jackpot meter in the game UI confirms this at 2,000.00 for a 1.00 bet. BonusTiime lists 5000x - that is an aggregator error. The in-game rules is the authoritative source and that figure is 2000x.

How does the Hold and Win bonus trigger?

Six or more Bonus symbols on the same spin trigger Hold and Win. The Bonus symbols carry individual cash values (1x to 16x total bet each) visible on their faces before the round starts. Once triggered, all Bonus symbols stick and the round begins with three respins. Each new Bonus symbol that lands during the respins resets the counter to three. The round ends when respins run out or all 15 positions fill.

Does Wolf Night have a Buy Bonus feature?

No. All in-game rules were reviewed - no Buy Bonus or Bonus Buy feature is present. BonusTiime lists it as available; the in-game rules do not show it. That is a data error for this title.

How does Wild x2 work in Free Spins?

During Free Spins, every Wild on the reels transforms into Wild x2. For any winning combination that includes a Wild x2, that combination's win is doubled. So a five-Wolf combination at 12x becomes 24x if a Wild x2 is part of that line. Free Spins are retriggerable - three Scatters during the feature adds 8 more, with no stated cap.

What is the volatility of Wolf Night?

Wolf Night's volatility is not officially stated by 3 Oaks Gaming - the label is not in the in-game specs. Cross-referencing my 1,640-spin session with SlotCatalog and ClashOfSlots: Medium. Hit rate ran at about one win per four spins, longest cold run was about 25 spins, session peak was 88.0x. Regular outcomes stayed in a medium range despite the 2000x GRAND ceiling. Take it as an estimate - not an official figure.

What are the jackpot tier values?

From in-game rules: MINI = 20x Total Bet, MINOR = 50x Total Bet, MAJOR = 150x Total Bet, GRAND = 2000x Total Bet. All four values scale proportionally with the bet - at 2.00 per spin, the GRAND is 4,000.00. MINI, MINOR, and MAJOR appear randomly during Hold and Win rounds. GRAND requires filling all 15 positions. The Mystery symbol transforms to MINI, MINOR, or MAJOR at the end of a round - it cannot directly contribute to the GRAND.

Can the Hold and Win trigger during Free Spins?

Yes. In-game rules states it explicitly: "The Bonus Game can be triggered in Free Spins" and "The Bonus Game that triggered in Free Spins is played at the Free Spins triggering bet." So if Hold and Win fires during the free spins sequence, jackpot values calculate at the bet that originally triggered Free Spins.
